FOOD FUND

Ever since its establishment, the monastery has been steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the provision of daily sustenance to 600s monks. The monastery serves as their singular nurturing parental figure and sanctuary. In essence, Serpom Monastery stands as the bedrock of their existence, as these devoted monks lack the means to independently sustain themselves.

The Sangha and Accumulation of Merit:

The Sangha, consisting of four or more ordained monks, is considered a field for the accumulation of merit. Giving food to them is seen as a highly beneficial acts.

Je Phabongkha’s Perspective:

Je Phabongkha, a prominent figure in Tibetan Buddhism, emphasized the importance of treating ordinary monks with the same reverence as enlightened beings like Maitreya or Manjushri. He suggested that the act of taking refuge extends to all monks, not just specific indivituals.

Sutra of Guatam:

The Sutra of Guatam highlights the abundant merit and fortune that can be generated by offering food to Sangha members. It suggests that continuous support to monks can lead to accrual of merit even during one’s sleep or leisure activities.

Lord Buddha’s Teaching:

Lord Buddha affirmed the benefits of offering food to monks when questioned by Kulche. He emphasized that such offerings lead to immense effects, benefits, and dignity. Those who engage in this practice can continually increase their merit, regardless of whether they are awake or at leisure.

In Buddhism, the act of giving or dana is considered one of the key virtues, and supporting the Sangha is a way to practice generosity and accumulate merit on the path to spiritual development. These teachings emphasize the profound positive effects of supporting ordained monks through offerings of food and other necessities.

Serpom is an esteemed non-profit religious institution dedicated to the provision of monastic education and shelter to individuals, irrespective of their religious affiliation or any form of sectarians.

Our monastery has operated solely on the generosity of unsolicited offerings. However, in light of the challenges in future, we earnestly beseech your support in Food Fund Program. This crucial initiative is indispensable for the sustained nourishment of our monks over the foreseeable years.

We also extend our profound appreciation for those willing to consider the sponsorship of one or more monks, as depicted in the accompanying diagram. The financial estimates provided here in Indian rupees.
